Following the completed reading of both the short story "I've Got Gloria" by E.M. Kerr and the first thirteen chapters of Holes, student will be choosing from three possible options for their first Transactional Journal Entry for Unit 4.
Three options are:
1. Fully examine and explain a particular piece of the writer’s craft common in both Holes and “I’ve Got Gloria”; you may want to consider any one of the following and explain how it is used by the writer in their piece: foreshadowing, symbolism, characterization, structure, hyperbole, imagery, or voice.Red Class
2. Write a letter/or correspondence from Scott Perkins to Stanley Yelnuts (or vice versa) that expresses some unspoken feelings or thoughts, in which one character offers advice to the other. Use details from both selections to support any advice the character might offer.
3. For “I’ve Got Gloria” write a chapter in which you continue the story and illustrate how Scott’s decision to take responsibility for his behavior has an impact on him.
