Tomorrow's State Assessment

I just wanted to give you a sense as to what your student will be experiencing in school tomorrow when they sit for the first two (of three) "books" (parts) of the ELA 8 Assessment (Test). The "test," itself, is very similar in design to that which was taken last year, albeit with more challenging reading selections and questions.

Tomorrow, will be the first of two days during which your student will be taking the New York State ELA 8 Assessment. The day's testing is "front loaded," which is to say that the first two hours of school will be spent in a testing environment.

During the first 60 minutes (Book 1), students will be asked to independently read five selections from a variety of genres and respond to twenty-six multiple choice questions. (Please note that all "books", or "parts", of this is assessment are timed.)

Following a short break, students will then be read a selection from which they will take notes. Using only the notes, students will complete a simple graphic organizer, two short-response questions and one extended response (essay).

All classes have been reviewing the test more formally in recent days, and I remain extremely confident of our ability to succeed together.

Read Up and Write On!
